Henry tries carrots!

After a couple of weeks of cereal, Henry was ready for his next food. I had read somewhere that if you give babies veggies first, it will help them to like veggies a bit more than if you start them on fruits first. With me as him mom (I hate veggies, unfortunately!), Henry needed all the help he could get! Fortunately for Henry, James LOVES his veggies so at least we have a shot of Henry liking them too! So I decided today that Henry was ready for some carrots. I wish I could have gotten some pictures but the video says it all. Enjoy!

This is just a cute video of Henry laughing. I had to sneak up on him because once Henry sees the camera, it's all over. James is making some faces and Henry is just loving it. I LOVE this laugh!

This last video I meant to put up with my Thanksgiving post but totally forgot that I even took it. Here are all three babies playing together, peacefully for the most part :)

Thanksgiving 2010

Thanksgiving weekend was quite busy and fun! Here are some random pictures from the event.

Henry has started eating solids... well cereal at least. So we decided it was time for him to sit in his high chair for the first time. I think he thought it was a ride. Look at him hold on!
WEEEE!
This is fun :)
Mmmm, oatmeal!
We started our day pretty early, Henry gets up around 5:30 these days, fun! So after he got dressed and ate his oatmeal we headed out to my parents house first. By the time we got there, Henry was ready for a nap. Henry missed church Thanksgiving morning because he was napping. When he woke up, we drove out to see James's family. Most of his family was there, including all but two of his siblings, that's saying something because there are ten of them altogether! So we tried to get a group picture. James and I are over to the far left, James's parents are on the far right and in between are James's brothers, sisters and all of their kids. Holy Stoners Batman!! ;)
Back to my parents place for dinner, but first Henry needed to browse all the Black Friday specials with his daddy!
I think I want this one daddy!
Henry and cousin Sean getting to know each other.
Henry trying some mashed potatoes.
As you can see, he was not a big fan.
Group picture time! Here are the little boys. Henry on the left, Sean in the middle and Caleb on the right.
After dinner, it was playtime!
It was way funny to have all three babies playing on the floor. Especially since Henry and Caleb don't get around quite as well as Sean who is crawling now. Sean would just crawl on over and take any toy he wanted, but Henry and Caleb didn't seem to mind... yet.
Henry is practicing his sitting while Sean and Caleb play with his rolly ball.
We were at my mom's for less than 24 hours and this is just SOME of the stuff we took!
Henry was so tired after his trip to SV that he came home and took a 3 hour nap! Wow! And then wanted some cuddle time in the big bed! I love this :)
I have so many things to be thankful for this year, to name a few: My wonderful husband, my sweet baby boy, my amazing family, some great friends, my health, my job... and of course God who makes it all possible.

Grandma visits, Christmas tree decorating and Starbucks!

This was a busy weekend for us. Usually by now we have all our Christmas decorations up. But having a baby around really redefines your time. So while we had some extra hands around, James and I got down to decorating! First up, some cute pics of Henry cuddling with grandma... after he decided that she was ok. Henry is very into his stranger anxiety these days. My poor neighbor, Jen, got an earful when she got a little too close for Henry's comfort. So I was a little afraid that Henry would freak out when he saw my mom. He sees her pretty regularly, about every other week, but he sometimes forgets her from week to week. Luckily my mom has lots of experience with this type of thing at her work and knew exactly how to handle it. She let me hold him until he was ready and then I stayed in sight the entire time. When he finally warmed up, my mom got some rare Henry cuddle time!

Then it was time to decorate the tree! James and I got the tree put up in record time this year because we knew we were racing Henry's nap time! It's just so much easier to get things done when we are not distracted by our adorable baby boy! When Henry got up from nap time, we were ready to put up the ornaments! I wanted Henry to put on the first one. I had him put up the ornament we made for him last year of his ultrasound picture. He was way more interested in eating it than putting it on the tree. Here are a few shots of my attempt to get Henry to put the ornament on the tree.

You want me to what with this thing? No way, I'd rather eat it!
K, I'm bored now what?
See his ultrasound ornament on the tree! That was how big he was at this time last year, only about 20 weeks! And look at him now!
Since there are like, zero pictures of me and Henry, since I'm ALWAYS the one taking the pics, I thought this might be a good time to get one or two.
After decorating the tree, Erin and my mom babysat while James and I went out on a much needed date night. While we were out, I thought I maybe wanted to try the new Holiday Starbucks drinks. I thought better of it when I realized it was already past my bedtime and the drink would most likely keep me up way late. So we agreed to get Starbucks the next day. When James arrived home with my Starbucks, Henry was in his Excersaucer. His eyes lit up at the sight of the Starbucks cup. He knew EXACTLY what to do with it too! Don't worry, he didn't actually get any! I'm not THAT bad of a mom! ;)

Maybe if Henry ever actually EATS his rice cereal, one day he can have a Starbucks for real! How's that for bribery! :)

Sitting up is hard to do!

They say that sitting up is hard to do. Now I know, I know that it's true! Sorry, I couldn't resist ;) Henry has been hard at work practicing sitting everyday and he has gotten pretty good at it! Where before he would sit for a few seconds, wobble and fall, now he can sit for a long period of time and if he wobbles, most of the time he can regain his balance. He does still fall occasionally but it is usually forward because he is reaching for a toy and he will catch himself with his hands. I took a bunch of pictures today cuz he was doing so good! There was a Boppy behind him, not supporting him, but there just in case he falls while I am taking a million pictures :)

Henry also has been working on "crawling." He actually likes being on his belly for tummy time now. So much so that his poor little elbows and knees are getting all red and irritated from all his practicing. He does not crawl forward at all yet. But he does get up on his hands and knees and does the cutest little inchworm move I have ever seen! Here are some pics of it.
These pictures don't do him justice so of course, there is a video! :) This was from the end of the day. Right before Henry gets ready for bed, I take him in to our bedroom so we can cuddle before bedtime. He is usually all sleepy and cuddly but tonight he wanted to play still. I'm slightly embarrassed to have my sloppy unmade bed on here for all to see but hey, it is what it is. The video is slightly long... again, sorry!

Ok one more. This was from a bit earlier tonight when Henry was being a little fussy. He really, REALLY likes to look at himself in the mirror, I hope this doesn't mean anything! So I took him in to the bathroom where there is a big mirror and multiple places for him to see himself. He just loves it! Watch at your own risk, he is very loud! I have NO idea where he gets that from ;)

The evolution of a nickname

Henry's nickname is Bugs. If you know anything about me, you know that I loathe bugs! They are icky and creepy and I am petrified if one is even in the same room as me. So how, you might ask, did it come about that I call my precious baby boy, who I love more than anything else on this planet, Bugs? Well here's the scoop on his nickname. Before Henry was born James and I would talk to him. We had no idea if he was a boy or a girl and no names picked out yet. So we would just call him baby. Then when we discovered he was a boy, we added a word and called him baby boy. Now eventually along the way we did settle on the name Henry for him but we were so stuck on calling him baby boy that it stuck around for a while even after we knew his name would be Henry. Once he was born, we continued calling him baby boy but that got a little too long so we started calling him bub, kinda short for baby boy. But they we realized that was a little confusing since we call each other babe or bub sometimes too. So we went to bubba. That opened the door to all kinds of stuff. I started with bubba-licious (like the gum!). That then became bubba-loo, which changed to bugga-boo and eventually shortened to bugs and that is where we stopped. It hasn't changed again or been added to since we landed on bugs. We normally don't call him that when we are talking to other people and we try to call him Henry when we are talking to him so that he will learn his name (hopefully) but James and I still call him Bugs when we are talking about him. Not sure why, but it's cute on him. I just tell myself his nickname is NOT bug, like the creepy things, rather it is Bugs, like Bugs Bunny and he is cute :) So you just never know what you'll end up calling your kid. I would have never guessed this nickname in a million years. But look how easy it was to get to Bugs from baby:
baby
baby boy
bub
bubba
bubba-licious
bubba-loo
bugga-boo
BUGS :)

We love you Bugs!!!

Chillin' like a villian
Wud up?
Give me the camera mama!
This is not a great shot but look at how blue his eyes are!
I love bath time :)
Can I please be naked ALL the time?
This finger is GOOD!

A veteran's day treat

Today Henry got his first taste of solid food! I've been looking forward to and dreading this day for some time now. Looking forward to it because babies eating food is freakin' adorable and so fun and yes, messy! Dreading it because it means my baby is growing up, which he seems to be doing at lightning speed! All the baby books seem to disagree with each other on exactly when the right age is to begin solid foods. So we opted to listen to what our pediatrician told us at Henry's four month check up: start him on rice cereal at five and half months. Seemed strange but I was sure there was some method to this madness and patiently waited until Henry was exactly five and half months. It just happened to fall on Veteran's day, a day that I have off from school, yay! So this morning, after Henry's bottle, we strapped him in his infant chair (he can't quite sit up well enough for the high chair yet) and tried to feed him some good old rice cereal. The video is kind of long, sorry! Here's what happened...

As you can see, Henry was NOT a big fan of the cereal. I was hoping for a little bit more enthusiasm on his part but after tasting it myself, I can see why he didn't like it! Oh well, we will try again this weekend.

Practice makes perfect!

Henry is a champ when it comes to rolling over. Now we are trying to get him to sit up a little better on his own. He tends to just lean over when we put him in the Bumbo and just chew on the sides of it. So I started having him sit on his own with me behind him as support and then slowly moving away to see if he could do it on his own. It was hard to do this and try to capture it on the Flipcam. I hesitate to even put this on here as it shows what a stellar mom I am. Henry falls at the end of the video, mother of the year strikes again! Enjoy :)

This next video I thought I'd post just to show that I am really trying to get Henry to say dada as well as mama. See James!

The last one is just Henry being Henry, totally adorable :)

Mama!

After a week or so of hearing Henry say, baba, he has finally added m sounds to his repertoire! So I busted out the old flipcam and caught what I feel are his first attempts at saying mama! :) The video is a little shaky cuz I am laughing at cute he is :)

I love hearing him say mama, even if he doesn't quite mean it... yet ;)
