Spencer Claire's birth story :) Since we couldn't do the VBAC that we had wanted, we scheduled the C-section for Monday, October 7th at 1:00 pm. We checked in the the hospital at 11:00 am. I was super hungry since I was not allowed to eat 8 hours prior to surgery and I was sleeping before that. So I hadn't eaten since about 10:00 pm the night before. I was still quite nervous about the surgery. Even though I had done it before, I knew what to expect so it was still scary.
Once we checked in to our room and I got in to my super sexy hospital gown, the nurses came in to get my IV started. It took them three tries to get the IV in. Apparently, I have bumpy veins? I had always been told my veins were awesome! Oh well, maybe it's just because I'm older now ;) Once that was done, they needed to run some labs and wait for the doctor to arrive. It took a while longer than I liked, I was ready to roll! The anesthesiologist came in to explain the spinal that I was going to be getting. Apparently there is a difference between a a spinal and the epidural that I got last time? I'm still not sure what that is as the Dr talked about a mile a minute and I didn't follow a word he said! He also thought he was a comedian because everything was a joke and he kept trying to get me to laugh. I wasn't the best audience at that point so I felt bad for the guy. My Dr finally arrived and it was time to go to the OR. Cue excessive nervousness!!!
I actually put on make-up to go in to surgery! You probably can't tell because at this point I'd already been crying. I'm telling you, I was nervous!! So happy to be having my picture taken too.
James is ready to go to the OR.
James had to wait outside while I got the spinal done. Ugh, that thing was no fun and made me cry even more. The pressure of the spinal, the oxygen mask I had on and the warming jacket they put on me made me feel quite uncomfortable, like I was suffocating. It would have been nice to have James in there while all this was going on. But he came in right after.
Here is a picture right as they are taking the baby out. James got in trouble for taking this picture ;)
Once the baby was out, I heard her cry and I felt a LOT better. I sent James over to check her out and take some pictures. Here is my baby girl!
Spencer Claire Stoner
James and I had been very adamant about the fact that we wanted to be able to hold the baby right after the birth. With Henry, they took him away so quickly that I never got the chance to hold him until after the surgery. So we made sure I would get to hold Spencer right away. I'm glad we made that a priority.
Me and my baby girl! It was love at first sight. She reminded me so much of Henry. Looking at her now, she is so different but at the time, I was reminded so much of her big brother. She melted my heart immediately.
I gave her a kiss and she was on her way back to the room where my mom was waiting for her.
Back in the room getting weighed and measured. Nana was there to cuddle her.
The surgery seemed to take only minutes and I was back in the recovery room with my baby.
Look at that pouty face, I am in trouble!
Such a sweetheart!
My mom said Spencer reminds her so much of me when I was a baby. She said, she was a goner the second she laid eyes on her.
Spencer was wide awake and checking everything out, just like Henry when he was first born.
Daddy and his baby girl.
I think Spencer has her daddy wrapped around her little finger already.
Nana and Spencer
You can't really see it here, but Spencer has a full head of dark hair!
I'm not too good at sharing! I had to have my baby back.
She was worth all the nervousness and all the pain it took to get her. She is perfect!
It had been a long day but it wasn't over yet. We wanted to have Henry come and meet his baby sister! That will be my next post. Seriously, the most adorable thing ever!
